This virtual panel discusses the community health center’s response to COVID-19 among vulnerable and homeless populations. \nThursday\, August 20th 6:30-7:15 p.m.: New approaches to addressing mental illness \nNearly a third of individuals experiencing homelessness in the US report having a serious mental illness\, and having an untreated mental illness is often a leading cause to becoming homeless. Providing these men\, women and children with ongoing care in an environment they feel safe isn’t easy\, and the cost of treatment and needed medications make receiving mental health services nearly impossible for low-income or homeless individuals. \nFourth Street Clinic’s new integrated behavioral health program takes a new\, holistic approach to treating patients at the downtown community health center. \nJamie Bustamante\, Ph.D.\, Behavioral Health Director of Fourth Street Clinic\, shares new approaches to tackling mental illness among vulnerable populations. David Huntsman\, philanthropist and advocate of mental health resources; and Brent Kelsey\, Assistant Director of the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health join the panel.

When people seek help at the Family Justice Center\, they find trauma-informed\, compassionate professionals who work with them to identify their needs\, help them set personally meaningful goals for a path forward\, and assist them in navigating criminal justice and other systems to obtain the resources they need to change their lives.

DESCRIPTION:Extend Funding for Community Health Centers\nTuesday\, February 6th is shaping up to be one of the biggest days in Health Center Advocacy history. Fourth Street Clinic is teaming up with the Health Care Advocacy Network to get Congress to ACT and fix the public health center funding cliff! \nThe appeal to extend funding comes after months of living under a “funding cliff.” Critical funding for health centers and other programs expired on October 1st 2017.  Every health center\, including Fourth Street Clinic\, has made tough budget choices to ensure they can continue to provide care. With Fourth Street Clinic’s funding cut in half\, our patients would have to turn to emergency rooms for services. That equates to roughly 15\,000 additional visits to ERs and hospitals. An average ER visit cost in the US is $900 – potentially costing hospitals and taxpayers an estimated $13\,500\,000.  \nIn short: the federal investment of $2.6 million to Fourth Street Clinic alone from the federal government saves the taxpayers more than $10 million each year. \nRed Alert – take action now for Health Centers across the country!\nAction is needed NOW to contact your representatives and tell them to Fix the Cliff!! DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser where each beautifully handcrafted bowl you buy provides 22 meals  to those we serve at our St. Vincent de Paul dining hall! \nAccording to the Alliance to End Hunger and the National Alliance to End Homelessness\, over 400\,000 people in Utah are considered food insecure. That’s 416\,670 bowls going unfilled in our state alone. \nIn the fight to end hunger\, Empty Bowls says it all. Help us fill those bowls. Clay Arts Utah artists have donated beautiful\, handmade bowls to be sold at the event. Join us for a delicious meal\, then choose a bowl to take home as a reminder of all the bowls you helped fill.
